Admissions

Our admission process involves getting on our wait-pool, followed by a tour of the school for adults, and then a "Meet the Teachers" session with your child, where they’ll spend about an hour in the environment to see how they adjust.

In selecting children from our pool, we aim to create a balanced and harmonious mixed-age classroom environment that fosters peer learning and supports the developmental needs of each child.

This approach helps us maintain the Montessori principle of nurturing independence, social skills, and cooperation across different age groups.

While we reserve the right to choose who joins our school, we are a non-discriminatory, inclusive community that welcomes all children and families, regardless of background, culture, or ability.

Get on our wait-pool through the Brightwheel app or website!

Please note that children must be completely potty trained to join our program.

We look forward to welcoming your child to Big Sky Montessori!

2 Year-Old Enrollment Guidelines

To ensure a safe, supportive, and balanced preschool environment, we maintain specific readiness expectations for children entering at age two. Openings are limited and often become available mid-year (commonly in January), depending on classroom age balance.

Readiness Expectations:

Bathroom Independence
Children must be fully potty trained and mostly independent in the bathroom (typically closer to age 2½).

This includes:

  • Fewer than one accident per day consistently

  • Attempting to wipe

  • Managing clothing independently

  • Washing hands independently

Communication Skills:

  • Speak in short sentences (not just single words)

  • Clearly communicate needs (bathroom, help, hurt, emotions)

Social & Safety Readiness:

  • Follow simple directions

  • Participate safely in group activities

  • Transition between activities with support

  • Function in a group setting without one-on-one adult support

  • Keep objects out of their mouths

  • Use classroom and playground equipment safely

  • Show emerging independence with personal belongings

These guidelines help ensure all students are safe, supported, and able to fully participate in the preschool experience. Please reach out if you would like to discuss your child’s readiness.
